Alexander Technique

I have always been passionate about horses and have been riding for 25 years. For a while this was my full-time career. I was highly dedicated and ambitious and had numerous lessons from highly qualified individuals. I competed at Medium dressage and was a BHS Intermediate Stable Manager and Rider. However, I became disillusioned with my lack of progress and eventually decided to quit.

It was several years later that I discovered the Alexander Technique. The significant improvement in my riding made it an easy decision to enrol on a three-year, full-time course to become an Alexander Technique teacher. I am registered with STAT, the oldest and largest professional body for this work.

My aim is to highlight the benefits of Alexander Technique lessons to as many riders as possible. I feel we owe it to our horses always to enhance, rather than hinder, their ability to carry us. Poor postural habits are evident at all levels of equitation. The Alexander Technique provides a unique tool to eliminate them and make life more enjoyable and comfortable for both horse and rider.

I am Head of the Alexander Technique Department at St Mary's School in Calne and teach at Hewlett Packard in Bristol. I also teach non-riders from both my Bristol based clinics.
