We cannot isolate riding from how we move in daily life. Since any habit patterns will become exaggerated in the saddle, the best place to learn the Alexander Technique is on the ground doing everyday activities. This is important because we usually perform these simple tasks with no thought of how. Most of us spend far more time sitting at desks or driving than actually riding. These are ideal times to practice the Technique, and subsequently benefit our riding.
I will also work with you on a saddle horse. Once you have a grounding in the skills of the Alexander Technique, I will travel to your yard to teach you on your horse. The nature of the work means I am able to teach you regardless of your riding ability or discipline.
How many lessons you have depends on your individual goals and how 'well schooled' you wish to become. Just as a novice horse cannot progress to advanced in a couple of sessions, it's not possible to achieve lasting change in an instant with this work. Significant change often happens early on but for long-term change a course of lessons is recommended.
