We all want a good balanced riding position which will allow us to communicate effectively and move in harmony with our horses. Often riders try very hard to achieve this and this is understandable - we equate such effort with results. Paradoxically the harder we try to get or keep a good position, the stiffer and more tense we become and as a result move further away from our goal.

"Excess tension is the single greatest enemy of good riding."
Erik Herberman

The Alexander Technique is about balance and how to improve this by doing less. During Alexander Technique lessons you will learn how to 'undo' unnecessary tension, which has often become habitual, and therefore learn to release into better balance. This may well result in a more upright stature, but without the fixing and rigidity associated with the idea of 'sitting up straight' or 'shoulders back'! It is the ultimate way of learning to do less but achieve more.

"Horses have poise just like their riders - efficient or inefficient - the end result depends entirely upon the rider."
Charles Harris, FBHS

No phraseology, however skilled, can describe an experience. Why not book an introductory lesson and find out how the Technique could help you and your horse?
